Nigerian artistes Omah Lay and Ms Tems
were arrested in Uganda on Sunday 13 December 2020 following an unathouriesd concert held the previous evening. The concert hosted at Dungu Resort in contravention of Covid 19 prevention guidelines instituted by country’s Ministry of Health. The health guildlines prohibit public gatherings of more than 200 people without social distancing, face masks are mandatory, but more specifically music concerts, bars and clubs are forbidden.
The Uganda Police Force claims to have arrested 3 of its own officers for coniving with he concert promoters to provide security for the event rather than stop it entirely. Following the artists arraingement in court on Monday 14 December 2020, Police spokesman Mr Enanga said in a press conference “We have given them police bond but withheld thier passports while we carry out further investigations with the immigration department regarding the nature of their visas “.
Prior to the arrests, Ugandan artists who haven’t been able to hold any concerts since march this year, were up in arms against the percieved double standards and the selective enforcement of the Covid 19 rules.
